The snow-encrusted view from the ski lift going up to the bunny slope at Niseko Grand Hirafu ski resort. I got very used to this view since I spent most of my 5 days on this slope!

Danbo went back to his homeland of Japan over New Year's last year and had plenty of time to play in the powdery snow of Niseko.

This sign, seen in Karesuando at 68º north in Swedish Lapland, was one of the more impressive markers I've seen. Despite the cold, I found myself standing there for quite a while, picking out all the places I've been and all the places I would like to go. The numbers were mind-boggling too -- from a bit over 100km to Kiruna, my previous stop, to over 6600 to Sapporo, where I rang in the New Year, all of the distances seemed to be quite a long way! Being Boiled

The amazing Blue Marine room in the 2012/2013 Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Swedish Lapland. Stepping into this room, carved by Andrew Winch & William Blomstrand, felt like stepping into the belly of a whale.

I couldn't believe how many gorgeous sunsets I saw in Lapland. The sun seemed to be in golden hour for most of the day and became even more striking around sunset. What a great way to start an evening of northern lights watching! This shot was taken just outside the glass igloo village at Santa's Resort, Kakslauttanen.
