You are the Phoenix - rising from the ashes, reborn and burning brighter

In Greek mythology, a phoenix is a bird that is reborn through the ashes of the phoenix who came before it. The bird would die in flames after living a centuries long life. The phoenix was also an early Christian symbol, hence the use of the tongue of flame (the Holy Spirit) in this design. Original illustration in red by J. W. Mollett, 1883.

This is a traditionally Chinese ornament with phoenix where it is known as the king of birds in China.It represents the supreme beauty and grace in Chinese art.

In Japan, as earlier in China, the mythical Phoenix was adopted as a symbol of the imperial household, particularily the empress. This mythical bird represents fire, the sun, justice, obedience, fidelity, and the southern star constellations. According to legend (mostly from China), the Hō-ō appears very rarely, and only to mark the beginning of a new era -- the birth of a virtuous ruler, for example. In other traditions, the Hō-ō appears only in peaceful and prosperous times (nesting, it is said, in paulownia trees), and hides itself when there is trouble. As the herald of a new age, the Hō-ō decends from heaven to earth to do good deeds, and then it returns to its celestial abode to await a new era.

My Phoenix. During some hard times, friends posted pictures of phoenixes to inspire me. I sketched two. One is just plain black, I have also colored it in here. People liked both so I’m posting both.
