Another part of South Africa's more recent history is marked by “apartheid”, an Afrikaans term to express the segregation caused by white domination over the black population in that country. Thus, when the South African Union was established in 1910, the Union's Constitution already provided for the prohibition of voting for non-white Africans residing outside the Cape region. South Africa started to stand out economically after the end of economic embargoes imposed by the UN to that country.
