King Edward II, Didcot, August 2021 Resplendent in its blue British Railways livery, King class locomotive number 6023, King Edward II was built in Swindon in 1930, and spent most of its working life hauling passenger trains between London Paddington and Devon. The 'Kings' were the most powerful locomotives to work the Great Western Railway routes. Sold for scrap in 1962, KIng Edward II then spent over 20 years in a South Wales scrapyard, before eventually ending up at Didcot Railway Centre, in Oxfordshire, where it was rebuilt in a major engineering project taking a further 20 years.
