The Ashness Bridge, Cumbria Phone Case

This image, originally captured on film in the autumn of 1987, depicts the Ashness Bridge, in the Lake District National Park, in England. This is a popular spot for capturing images, but it has changed over the years as the view across to Skiddaw, the mountain in the distance, is now restricted by the abundance of trees that have grown. This image, therefore, represents an historical view. The bridge is a traditional Lakeland bridge, in that the arch does not contain a keystone. Within the park, there are many 'pack horse' bridges such as this, mostly built during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
