This digital imaging honors "The Filthy 13", the 1st Demolition Section of the Regimental Headquarters Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Prior to jumping into Nazi-occupied Europe on D-Day, 1944, the members of this elite sub-unit shaved their heads into Mohawks and donned war paint at the suggestion of Sergeant Jake McNiece, to honor the warrior spirit of his Native American ancestors. Pictured are Clarence Ware (L) and Charles Plauda (R), on June 5, 1944.
