Enjoy a day out on the ocean sea sailing the day away.

I captured this image while visiting the Gullfoss waterfall. The water that feeds the waterfall comes from the glacier in this image, which is a relatively short distance, about 15 kilometres, from the waterfall. when capturing the image, I was really struck by the incredibly blue sky over the brilliantly white glacier, the stark contrast of the black volcanic on which the glacier resides, and the yellows and greens of the vegetation in the foreground.

On a trip to Prince Edward County in Ontario, I realised that it is host to some remarkable farm structures. Doted throughout the county are these vestiges of a long tradition of farming. Some where in a sad state of repair having been neglected or abandoned, but others were still in active use. I loved this one for its setting, surrounded by neatly mowed grass. The round bales of straw in the doorway spoke to its continued use. And then there's the magnificent blue of the sky; the whole scene seems idyllic.

This image, originally captured on film in 1987, depicts sheep grazing on the mountainside in the Lake District National Park, in the United Kingdom. The principal industry in the park is hill farming, where the sheep are allowed to wander the mountains throughout most of the year. The farmers gather the sheep in the spring for shearing and the older sheep are sent to market. Each farmer daubs a dye specific to their herd on their sheep so that they can be separated later. Lambs are daubed in line with the colour of their mothers. The soft-looking form of the mountain in the image is characteristic of the mountains in the north of the park, where the underlying rock is slate. It was late afternoon when we got to the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. We were almost the last to gain entrance that day, but it meant that we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We hired a guide to swiftly show us around before they closed the gates, who, recognising my love of photography, took us to the best spots. This image is of the Moonlight Pavilion (Preah Tineang Chan Chhaya), which is used for traditional dance ceremonies and banquets. What I love about this image is the remarkable architectural whimsy in the roof of the pavilion. The multi-tiered roof, the spire, the ornate and colourful roofing, and the wispy upturned pieces at the end of the roof gables, which we were told were there to represent snakes. So what is this? These are the 'sails' that adorn Vancouver's Canada Place, which is the cruise ship docking terminal and a generally wonderful place to explore. The structures on its roof are lookalikes for the sails of a sailing boat, ship, dingy, etc. They are an expression of of the ocean that lies on Vancouver's doorstep. In this image, I love the deepness of the dark blue sky in contrast with the almost perfect whiteness of the sails. I hope you do too!

We had to be up really early but not so early that we couldn't take a look at the Colosseum just as the Sun was about to rise. The mix of early morning light and the first rays of golden light from the Sun gave this remarkable structure a strange luminescence. We would soon have to be on our way but this was a great way to start the day.

We had been to the Canyonlands National Park and were returning to Moab when I spotted this remarkable scene. It had been raining quite a bit that day, but the dramatic sky beyond this brightly sunlit butte said this was a moment not to miss.

This poem has been incorporated into a play, a short story, a volume of poetry and now a metaphoric image. It is about the unexpected beginning of life when death is final. The power to overcome inevitable dissipation to nothing is shown in the churning universe giving birth to stars and humans even while destruction carries on. This is an image of part of the Lavenham village square. The square is surrounded by medieval Tudor-style buildings. Featured in this image is the Market Cross, which is a "Scheduled Ancient Monument" that was erected 1501. Today, the residents have taken to painting the buildings in vibrant colours. It's just a delightful place to be.
