Founded in 1935, Harbor Tug & Barge Company was one of San Francisco Bay's first dedicated tugboat operators. In business for over half a century, at its peak, Harbor Tug maintained a fleet of 15 high-powered tugboats, and over 70 barges. Aside from guiding freighters in and out of the bay, Harbor Tug's barges were used for everything from waterfront construction and demolition projects, to the haulage of bulk materials and garbage.

The San Francisco Pioneers were an expansion franchise in the Women’s Professional Basketball League (WBL) in 1979. Started the dream that was women's basketball. The team lasted two seasons until the league folded in 1981.

Believe it or not, as late as the mid-'60s, the concept of rock music on the radio was foreign to most Bay Area residents. Other than the few top 40 AM stations, there was no outlet for the growing rock scene. After a shakeup at KMPX that lead to a walkout, Metromedia owned classical station KSFR took the KMPX crew in, changed its call letters from to KSAN, and the switched to album-oriented rock music format on May 21, 1968. Suddenly, the Bay Area was hearing albums that they'd never heard on the radio before. The station's youthful, counterculture attitude, came across through both music and commentary, became an integral part of the San Francisco youth experience. KSAN became a groundbreaking, and historic rock station.

Reggie 'Rat' Dennison, was a custom chopper builder and owner of Rat's Chops, a custom motorcycle speed shop that ran out of Oakland's Acorn neighborhood throughout the '70s and well into the '80s. Unlike a lot of shops that were always trying to build the next crazy thing and gain prestige through awards and magazine features, Rat didn't play that game. Rat and his crew built choppers to ride, not to fawn over in magazines. In addition to all the typical old school chopper customizations, Rat's Chops also specialized in making them fast, and were one of the first shops to manufacture their own superchargers, turning choppers into veritable land rockets.

The San Francisco Golden Gaters were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The Golden Gaters won two Western Division Championships and lost in the WTT Finals both times. The team was founded in 1973 and made the playoffs in each of the five seasons in which it participated in the league. Following the 1978 season, eight of the then 10 WTT franchises folded leaving only the Golden Gaters and the Phoenix Racquets prepared to participate in the 1979 season. WTT suspended operations of the league in March 1979, ending the Golden Gaters existence.
