Part of an inscription* on a magical ceramic bowl that resides in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The bowl originates from Iran, dating from between 400 and 700 AD. The inscription is an incantation for good luck made in ink on an unglazed pottery bowl and is in Mandaic, a language relating to Aramaic. A full translation was not on display, however a couple of lines were translated as to reading: ‘In the name of Life! Health be to him… Life is victorious over all magic.’ *Some of the characters were unclear or missing, and the design had unequal numbers of lines of text in each segment, so I altered it to make the design more aesthetically pleasing.
