The Huntington Pin

Liberty Pin

designed and sold by  FranklinPrintCo

Until 1776, the town of Huntington, New York flew the British Red Ensign. As the coming American Revolution approached, the word 'LIBERTY' was boldly added to the bottom portion of the front of the flag. When news of the Declaration of Independence spread, the town's residents gathered to lower the flag and the King's colors and name were ripped off the flag, leaving a large red flag with 'LIBERTY' becoming the focal point. But the flag's long history doesn't stop there. Later in 1776, the flag was carried into the Battle of Long Island and was captured. The flag gradually found its way to a museum in Dresden, Germany, where ironically, it was likely destroyed by a combined American and British aerial assault during World War II!
