It was the first environmentally themed world's fair and with 5.6 million visitors, was considered a success. Nearly breaking even, the event revitalized Spokane's blighted urban core, pumping an estimated $150 million into the local economy and surrounding region.The heart of the fair park grounds was located on Canada Island, Havermale Island, and the adjacent south bank of the Spokane River, comprising present-day Riverfront Park, in the center of the city.
