While surfing is generally thought of as a summer activity, the biggest, and best waves stateside are actually primarily found in the winter. When the idea for an Independence Day surf competition came about, New Smyrna Beach, Florida was the obvious choice as New Smyrna had killer waves year round, making it a perfect spot for the American Surf Competition. Tucked between Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach, New Smyrna Beach is a classic surfer town, with narrow streets, wide beaches and a laid-back attitude. It also has one of the most consistent surf breaks on the East Coast, courtesy of some significant rock ledges off the coast.
