Best known for horse racing, the thoroughbred is a hot-blooded horse breed originating in the 17-18th century. The term is often employed for any pure-bred horse, but the official Thoroughbred breed was first created in England when native mares were bred with imported breeds like Arabian, Barb, and Turkomen breeds. They are maximum athletes and will perform at maximum exertion, often leading to injury of the legs or lungs. This makes them great competitors, but also means that owners and handlers need to be mindful of their physical limits to keep them from hurting themselves.
