For those of you who have been wondering since Fractal Origami I "how did David make that folded paper effect" I can finally share with you that these "paper layers" were all made in GIMP, mostly using difference blending of gradients, with most of the gradients being applied with the shape selector set to Conical Asym (meaning the asymmetrical conical gradient shape.
