The Famicom (short for Family Computer) was a gaming console released in 1986 exclusively for the Japanese market. Taking inspiration from the home computer market, the Famicom utilized a proprietary diskette system with removable "Disk Cards" that looked similar to 3.5" floppy disks, which allowed games to be produced and sold for considerably less than previous formats.
