Historian Doane Robinson conceived the idea for Mount Rushmore in 1923 to promote tourism in South Dakota. In 1924, Robinson persuaded sculptor Gutzon Borglum to travel to the Black Hills region to ensure the carving could be accomplished. Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore, a batholith in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota, United States. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum created the sculpture’s design and oversaw the project’s execution from 1927 to 1941 with the help of his son, Lincoln Borglum.

On my recent trip to Japan I was extremely inspired by the majesty of Mount Fuji! I decided to do "31 Views of Mt. Fuji" as my theme for this year's Inktober. All the paintings are done with Sumi Ink and are based on my photos that I took while in Japan ^-^ The golden grains along the lake were really quite lush and intriguing. They stood taller than me, reaching almost to the top of the mountain.

On my recent trip to Japan I was extremely inspired by the majesty of Mount Fuji! I decided to do "31 Views of Mt. Fuji" as my theme for this year's Inktober. All the paintings are done with Sumi Ink and are based on my photos that I took while in Japan ^-^ This first one is based on my favorite moment. We woke up to a perfectly clear view and immediately took the bus to the other side of the lake. We were rewarded with this magnificent view just as the clouds were perfectly surrounding the mountain and golden waves of grass waved in the wind. The lake was still, save for a slight warm breeze, hinting at the hot day to come!

The majestic Mt Fuji, in the Honshu prefecture of Japan. a cable car ride from Lake Fujikawaguchi provided me with this incredible view of the monolithic volcano, and the additional gift of an eagle soaring high above the landscape. The beauty of Fuji is that it is a stand alone mountain. The land all around it falls to the ground, making it view able 360 degrees all around.

The tall lonely peak of Mount Fuji rising right over the first layer of clouds. I was awestruck, and then I felt a tinge of cold dread... would the weather even be clear enough to even see the mountain up close?
