This is an illustration of the nerve compression in my spine that causes pain in my throat, mouth, and the back of my head. I was inspired by the idea that, when trees are damaged, they are good at compartmentalizing the trauma. The dead part of the tree becomes a source of ecological richness, a home for all kinds of things. I’ve filled the dead part of my tree with bees. It’s a little bit of an anxiety joke as well… when I’m very stressed I say, “I’m sorry, I’m just filled with bees, give me a minute.”
