This is an image of the Hotel du Louvre, a large hotel situated just outside one of the main entrances to the Louvre Museum and is easily accessible by one of the metro stations. The 4 facades and terrace of this hotel overlook the famous Louvre Museum, the Opéra Garnier and the Comédie Française theater. Hotel du Louvre is 2 minutes from Palais Royal Metro Station, providing direct access to the Champs Elysees and the Place de la Bastille. Lamp posts have become part of Paris’ identity, so much so that one can easily recognise the French capital by their design. It is really no surprise that Paris’ historical lamp posts are famous throughout the world for providing atmosphere and elegance on the city’s streets. The one shown here is located on Place de la Concorde; a candelabra style lamp post with incredibly intricate and amazing details top to bottom. This image is of the cloister within the old Coimbra Cathedral. I have to say that I like the cloisters of these wonderful old cathedrals in Europe. They are peaceful places; they seem to instill a sense of tranquility.

This is an image of the inner gate of the Golden Gate into Split, Croatia. The gate was part of the Roman wall around the palace that was built as a retirement home for Emperor Diocletian. As an aside, the Roman structures here are home to the dungeon used to house the dragons in the Game of Thrones, actually used as a marketplace today, but that's another story. Today, there aren't a great number of people who live within the walls, so it's very quiet at night and perfect for capturing the Roman and medieval buildings within. I was really drawn to how the gate was portrayed in the lighting. I hope you enjoy it.

We were on a cruise, leaving from Split, down the Dalmatian coast. Our first port of call was the medieval town/village of Hvar, on the island of Hvar. Hvar is just a delight; We'd really like to go back. We were there in the spring before the masses arrived, so we were able to wander the narrow streets unhindered. The town is beyond picturesque and the crisp morning Adriatic light made it all the more so. This image is captured along one of the quiet lanes above the main harbour. I love the image for its unhurried feeling, its sense of history. I hope you do too!

Cruising doesn't give you much time at each port, so I quickly set out to find the real Hvar, away from the tourist traps.
