Harbour Pins and Buttons

An Australia-shaped design featuring my painting of 'Sydney Harbour'.

Isn't this sweet? The big old boat is sharing stories with the little one. Perhaps they're pretty scary stories! Poor little boat ;-) We spotted lots of lovely old boats in the port of Puerto Natales in southern Chile many moons ago when we were there on a climbing trip. I was very happy when I finally painted these this year, reliving some wonderful memories.

Sunset over Brownsea Number of views as of 14th January 2018 = 800. The evening sun slips away over Brownsea, the largest of the islands in Poole Harbour, Dorset, England. Best known as the birthplace of Scouting, Lord Baden Powell held the inaugural Scout camp on the island in 1907. Reached by ferry from Poole Quay or Sandbanks, the island is now maintained by the National Trust and is open to visitors during the months of April through to September. The private jetties in the foreground, belong to some of the houses in Sandbanks 'Millionaire's Row', the 4th most expensive property location on the planet. Date: 5th July 2010.

Brownsea Castle Number of views as of 22nd April 2019 = 1540. The view that most people see on arrival at Brownsea Island, the largest of the eight islands within Poole Harbour, Dorset, England. The castle was built in the 16th century and was part of the south coast defence system put into place by King Henry VIII, along with Portland, Sandsfoot and Hurst. The castle was renovated during the 19th century and converted into an impressive private residence. Despite being badly damaged by fire in 1895, the castle was rebuilt and when the National Trust acquired the island in 1962, the castle was leased to the John Lewis partnership, who use it as a private hotel for employees and their families. Two Little Maids from Poole Number of views as of 22nd January 2018 = 460. 'Maid of Poole' and 'Maid of the Harbour', two pleasure craft moored up on Poole Quay (Dorset, England) for the evening. These vessels are heavily used especially during the summer months for tours around the harbour and trips to Brownsea Island. Date: 19th August 2012.

The famous bridge in Sydney is called the Sydney Harbour Bridge or simply the "Harbour Bridge." It is one of Australia's most iconic landmarks and a symbol of the city of Sydney. The Harbour Bridge spans across the waters of Sydney Harbour, connecting the central business district to the northern parts, including North Sydney and Milsons Point. The bridge was opened on March 19, 1932, and at the time, it was the longest single-span bridge in the world. It has a total length of about 1.15 kilometers and is made of steel. Oil, canvas. Signed. Tenby Harbour Boats Waiting For The Tide, Pembrokeshire, Wales Several boats are moored on the dry sandy ground waiting for the tide to return at Tenby harbour at low tide, with their hulls resting on the surface and no water in sight. Almost like a 'soapy bubble bath' - a seal 'soaks it up' - in the sea swash and swell...

After a long rainy spell Sydneysiders get out on a mild winter's night to experience some of Vivid Sydney - a festival of music, light & ideas. This part of the festival was named Lighting the Sails. Polperro The fishing village and harbour of Polperro, in South West England, is situated on the southern coast of Cornwall, 25 miles west of Plymouth. The village's quaint harbour and attractive coastline have made it a popular tourist destination and it has long been popular with artists and smugglers. Despite its idyllic appearance, life in Polperro can be tough. Violent storms in 1774,1817 and 1824 swept away houses, parts of the harbour wall and wrecked numerous boats. Date: 11th September 2016.
