Landmark Pins and Buttons

St Mary's Lighthouse and island lie north of the River Tyne and Whitley Bay on the North Sea coast of England. The lighthouse is no longer in operation and is now a museum and tourist attraction which is only accessible at low tide when the causeway is not under water. The image was taken on a calm January morning with a beautiful blue and pink pastel sky colouring the whole scene.

Looking across the River Thames at Lechlade in Gloucestershire, towards the parish church of St Lawrence. This picturesque market town, at the southernmost tip of the Cotswolds, is also the highest navigable point on the Thames. Further west and it becomes increasingly narrower and shallower. St John's Lock just down river from here is the first (or last if you're travelling westward) on the Thames. This is a digital art image with added textures.

Portland Head Lighthouse Cape Elizabeth Maine Black and White Painterly ©Debra Martz One of the most photographed lighthouses in the country was commissioned by George Washington. Portland Head is Maine’s oldest lighthouse and is still active, guiding ships into the Portland Harbor. There is only one day each year when the Coast Guard allows a limited number of visitors inside this storied lighthouse: the annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day in September. Fortunately, there is a museum operating from Memorial Day through October 31 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) inside the 1891 keeper's quarters where you can view several lighthouse lenses and interpretive displays. Black & white conversion and digital brushes and textures were applied to my photo.

Another thermal pool along the boardwalk in the Midway Geyser Basin is Opal Pool. . Though usually active as a hot spring,approximate temperature of 132 °F (56 °C), Opal Pool is considered a fountain-type geyser though eruptions are infrequent. The first recorded eruption of Opal Pool was in 1947 and it occurred infrequently until they stopped in 1953. The eruptions reemerged in 1979 erupting without much warning. Chimney Rock, Nebraska, USA. Chimney Rock is a spire of harder rock that was left behind as the cliff behind eroded away. It consists of clay, ash and sandstone rocks. It rises to a height of around 90 metres above the surrounding North Platte River valley. This spire was a landmark for pioneers travelling westwards on the Oregon Trail and Mormon Trail in the mid-1800s. It was designated as Chimney Rock National Historic Site in 1956. Hősök tere (meaning "Heroes' Square" in Hungarian) is one of the major squares of Budapest, Hungary, rich with historic and political connotations. Its iconic statue complex, the Millennium Memorial, was completed in 1900, the same year the square was named "Heroes' Square".
