With this image, we celebrate American novelist and short story writer Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864).

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe shaped himself in a renaissance way, excelling in various fields: he was a statesman and scientist, a poet, a novelist, a painter! And he was very successful! His most significant contribution to humanity is in literature. At the age of 24, he became a celebrity, his autobiographical novel The Sorrows of Young Werther (1774) is the world's first best-seller. It also sparked and influenced the Romantic movement in literature. The book had haunted Goethe throughout his life. As great men fight great battles, Goethe later faced the ultimate adversary - the Devil. In his play Faust, Goethe examines the human soul's corruption, gifting us a lasting metaphor.

Circe Invidiosa (1892) by John William Waterhouse is a vintage Victorian Pre-Raphaelite fine art mythological portrait of a young woman holding a vessel with water that is spilling out like a waterfall into the ocean. In mythology, Circe is a minor goddess of magic (nymph, witch, enchantress or sorceress) living on the island of Aeaea, famous for her part in the adventures of Odysseus in Homer's Odyssey. Circe was the daughter of Helios (or Helius), the god of the sun, and Perse, an Oceanid and the sister of Aeetes, the keeper of the Golden Fleece and of Pasiphaë, the mother of the Minotaur. Other accounts make her the daughter of Hecate. Circe transformed her enemies into animals through the use of magical potions.
