Sylvia Falls near the Valley of the Waters at Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains National Park in Australia. This is on one of my favourite walks & the track goes around the cliff to Wentworth Falls before you climb a steep cliff to the top of the falls. My other good shots of Sylvia are portrait format. I thought I'd try landscape format to show off the greenery surrounding the falls. Photographed with a Canon 400D, ISO 200, 2.5 seconds, F18.

My first decent photo of my favourite Sylvia Falls with the new camera. The last time I was here was just after a mini cyclone & there was so much water coming over the falls you couldn't stand in front here without getting drenched from the water spray. The magnificent Sylvia Falls in the Blue Mountains, this time in black & white. As much as I love colour, I thought I'd give this beauty a go in monochrome. This view is on the track known as the National Pass & takes you from the Valley of the Waters all the way around to the huge waterfall which the suburb is named after. Photographed with a Canon 400D, ISO400, F22, 1.6 seconds , RAW Mode. This is the famous Sylvia Falls in the Blue Mountains National Park in Australia. This is the view as you approach the falls from above. After hundreds of shots of Sylvia Falls I thought I had photographed it from every angle but this view looked so nice with the ferns & orange coloured rocks that it begged to be photographed. The walking track starts from the Valley of the Waters at a place called Wentworth Falls. All I can think of when I see this photo is how cold my feet were when I took it! I decided not to inundate my boots, so instead waded into the glacial Matukituki River barefoot. The pins and needles had me dancing on the bank for minutes afterward!

Hampden Bridge is a suspension bridge across the Kangaroo River, located in the town of Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales, Australia. It is named after Lord Hampden, Governor of New South Wales from 1895 to 1899. Hampton Bridge was designed by Ernest Macartney de Burgh, the colony's Assistant Engineer for Bridges, to replace the decaying timber truss bridge which originally spanned the Kangaroo River. Mount Cook with its namesake lily blooming in front of it. These lilies only bloom in November and December, and when they do, the whole valley seems to be dotted with white and gold.

What a morning! We woke up to thick fog, but by the time we got the Bumble G and pro wakeboarders Bob Soven (seen here about to ride) and Josh Twelker out on the water, the sun was burning through the fog, making for a perfect scene on the glassy Clarence River.

Hooker Lake

On the Wentworth Pass track starting at the Valley of the Waters, heading past the world famous Sylvia Falls is this beautiful sight. It needed a tight angle because of the small trees obstructing the view. Recent rain made this waterfall more photogenic & the track muddy & slippery. This track leads to Vera Falls & then on to Wentworth Falls but it started to rain making it slippery & dangerous down there. The track is advertised as being for the more experienced hiker. I love the way the new growth on the ferns brings a spray of autumnal colours to the scene (in spring) .. bottom right. Our cabin for the weekend at Big River Caravan Park on the Clarence River near Grafton, NSW. That feeling of amazement when you look up and can see the Milky Way with the naked eye will never get old.

The Hooker Valley track was absolutely worth the walk. This was one of the first epic lookouts we reached, just before the first swing bridge. Around every corner there seemed to be yet another amazing view!

An overcast & windy day in the Blue Mountains & from the lookout over the Grose Valley at Govetts Leap you could see the wind blowing the small waterfall way off a vertical drop. There is rarely a lot of water in this waterfall but the drop is quite spectacular. There is a track down to the bottom of the falls & into the valley. It is pretty steep & often narrow. Caution is recommended. A panoramic view of the valley is below. The Hooker River was definitely in a rush to get as far away as possible from Mount Cook, which stands imposing at the end of the Hooker Valley. For the first half of the Hooker Valley Track, Mount Cook was hidden behind the mountain to the right, but it finally came into view here and stood tall over us for the rest of our walk.

On route to Milford Sound there is a deep valley which is almost totally protected from the wind and 3 small lakes there reflect the scenery as in a mirror. In fact, in a couple of them one can only see the view up-side-down in the lakes as vegetation prevents the viewer seeing the actual landscape on the other side of the lakes.
