Mountain Revelry

In a small alley in Vietnam, a slender woman clad in a traditional dress gracefully navigates through the alleys. Her long black hair styled in a sleek bun. As she strolls through the town, she greets friends and shopkeepers with a warm smile, taking in all the sights and sounds of the vibrant community.

Ink, gouache and digital. ‘Kata’ portrays a martial artist performing a karate kata, which is a series of movements used to practice various offensive and defensive movements. Kata is not intended as a mock fight, but as a combination of moves in which balance, coordination and agility are required. Decorated with asemic Japanese calligraphy.

"Strolling along..." is an original sumi-e, wash bamboo painting by me, Rebecca Rees. It measures 8-1/2" x 11" and is painted on a heavy weight, cream colored, textured paper. #1 archival brush pen and acrylic paint wash. A ladybug takes a stroll on one of the branches. stamped near bottom...my name in Chinese. I am inspired by the elegance and simplicity of japanese 'sumi-e' and Chinese 'shui-mo hua' paintings.
