Town Hall Pins and Buttons

This very elegant town hall sits in the centre of the town of Abingdon-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, England. The town was once in Berkshire and until 1867 was the County Town. The town hall, now a Grade 1 listed building was constructed between 1678 and 1682. It was designed to house the county courtroom above a sheltered market space. Both the master mason, Christopher Kempster and the clerk of works, John Scarborough were associates of Sir Christopher Wren whose influence can be seen. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

Ciutadella Town Hall. The Town Hall is the former palace of the Arab governor. Ciutadella, an historic town, was originally named by the Carthagians, who called it Jamma, and was the original capital of Menorca, Balearic Islands, Spain until the British came along and moved it to Mahon in in 1722. This is a replica in Main Street, Rutherglen dated 1926. The original was there from 1126-1926.

The Basel Town Hall /German: Rathaus) is a five hundred years old building dominating the market square in Basel, Switzerland. The Town Hall houses the meetings of the Cantonal Parliament as well as the Cantonal Government of the canton of Basel-Stadt. The Great Council Chamber at one time featured a series of frescoes painted in 1522 by Hans Holbein the Younger, however these have mostly been lost. "Rathaus" literally means "council house" while the term "Roothus" in the local Basel German dialect means both "council house" but also sounds like "red house", a pun with reference to the red sandstone facade of the building.
