If you drive the spectacular Ring of Kerry south from Killarney in Ireland, it takes you through the Killarney National Park on up into the mountains. A stopping point as you climb up to Molls Gap is at the Ladies View, a lookout point. I captured this image on a day with more rain than not. The soft, diffused light through the clouds brought out the wonderful colours across the landscape: the distant mountains, the nearby hills, and the lonely, windswept tree. It is this that I love about this image.

This image is taken just below the lodge at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. We had been driving most of the day, but when we arrived a heavy mist had set in, completely obscuring the view of the canyon. But undeterred, we explored the area near the lodge, where I found this view of the trees on the ridge that leads to Bright Angel Point. There's something very cool about trees shrouded in mist.

One of my favourite trees nearby, which always looks windswept no matter what the weather. It is a bit of a local landmark, referred to (somewhat unimaginatively) as "the tree".

A fun sketch, the first of many I hope, taking my pad out into the wilds of my Cornish home and sketching some of the remote and less known hidden magical spaces!

The clouds came, and the leaves dropped almost over night - it was the End of Summer. Black and white tree.
