The '70s were a time of great change and experimentation for dirt bikes that resulting in some amazing rides, as well as some amazingly bad ones. While purpose built dirt bikes were available in the decade prior, they were expensive, and not always that great. As the Japanese factories fired up, newer, better designed dirt bikes began to hit the market and much to everyone's surprise — especially stalwart manufacturers — they were considerably more affordable. This mid '70s design celebrates that wondrous era that took motocross from a fringe hobby to a worldwide sport that was accessible to just about everyone. Do it in the dirt, baby!

Beginning back in the Depression, it used to be very normal to see someone sticking their thumb out in an effort to signal that they needed a ride and get a passing motorist to pick them up. Whether people were just looking for conversation on a long drive, hoping to get lucky, or just being nice, hitchhikers were a ubiquitous sight across America. Nowadays, hitchhiking is perceived as dangerous, and few drivers are willing to pick someone up. Police discourage it, and many states ban it. Since the '60s, the percentage of households that own cars has steadily increased, and the proportion of those with multiple cars has grown even faster. As cars have lasted longer and gotten cheaper, fewer people need a lift.

The first California Free Former World Professional Skateboard Championships was held over the Summer of 1976 at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California. The event was the largest skateboard competition ever held up until that time, and its significant cash prizes changed skateboarding history, as it created a true professional tier in the sport.

Short track racing is where stock car racing got its start after leaving the back road events behind in favor of organized and regulated competition. Unlike the larger tracks, short-track events offer fans and competitors close racing, where the bodies of the cars actually rub against one another on oval tracks of less than one mile in length. Known as the 'minor leagues' of racing, this is where aspiring drivers, mechanics, and tuners can get into racing on a budget, and have a ton of fun doing it. Most professional drivers gets started short trackin' before making their way from these rural bullrings to the superspeedways.

The Sacramento Spirits were a professional soccer team based in Sacramento, California and played in the American Soccer League (ASL) for two seasons. In the 1978 season the team lost its league membership for failing to fulfill the obligations of the ASL constitution. They were replaced by a new team named the Sacramento Gold and inherited the Spirits' 2–4–0 record, players, and remaining schedule. The Gold ceased operations in 1980 and was briefly replaced by another Sacramento team, the Spirit.

The wolf howling at the home has long been a symbolic image, and while wolves do indeed howl, it's a myth that they howl at the moon. Howling may be heard at night, but it's not a directed at the moon. Instead, it's used as a social rally call, a hail to hunt, or as a territorial expression. A howl can even help a lost wolf find its way home. A wolf separated from its pack uses a “lonesome howl” — a shortened call that rises in pitch. If answered, the wolf then responds with deep, even howls to inform the pack of its location. Additionally, individual wolves have different howls that can be heard and identified by other wolves up to seven miles away.
