I took this photograph the other day when I noticed that many long tails were congregating on the feeders and managed to snap this nice photo of one sitting still! This design is watermarked with my shop name.

Guarding the Light ©Debra Martz I couldn't believe this Brown Pelican was perched up high on this street light. I was in the area about 4 years ago and saw one perched in the exact same place and thought it was strange at the time as I had never seen a pelican perch on something like this. I guess it did offer a good vantage point as it was right by the boat ramp at Goose Island State Park in Texas. It was not bothered by my presence as it stayed put while I walked around taking photos...guess it didn't want another pelican or bird to get its light. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved

Graceful Flight of a Herring Gull by Debra Martz While the activity of birds was heavy on the water, I took to watching this young Herring Gull making lazy and graceful circles in the sky each time coming just a bit closer to me. In a few more years it will be a white gull with a yellow beak sporting a red dot. Rainbow Lorikeets are commonly found in the rainforests, coastal bushes and woodland forest areas of Australia’s east coast. They are notorious for destroying fruit crops. These birds eat a wide range of fruits, seeds, nectar and pollen from flowers. Wild lorikeets are common in urban areas and often get close to humans. Photo taken in Sydney on a Nikon Coolpix P610.

Tiny little Bushtit at the lake

Tom Turkey Profile ©Debra Martz I first spotted a male turkey in full display near the visitors center shortly after our arrival at Bentsen-Rio Grande State Park. About a mile along the main trail into the park, I spotted a number of turkeys back in the trees so I just stood around awhile. Eventually, this gobbler come out of the trees where the sunlight really showed off all its details and colors. Male Northern Cardinal on a Snag by Debra Martz I was at the end of my hike, almost to the truck, when this guy flew in and landed on top of this old snag. Captured at south Llano River State Park near Junction, Texas. Common Gallinule Looking Fluffy by Debra Martz The tail showing off white under tail feathers is just one of the displays of courtship during mating season. And, it was March so this is a possible reason for the raised tail. The Common Gallinule in the Americas were once known as the Common Moorhen like those of the Old World. But the American Ornithologists' Union split it from that in 2011. I photographed this beautiful bird at Leonabelle wetlands in Port Aransas, Texas. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved
