Eel Pie Island, April 2019 Eel Pie Island is a small island in the middle of the River Thames, near Twickenham, in the borough of Richmond, West London (England). Its name comes from a local delicacy served at the inn on the island in the 19th century. It was earlier called the Parish Ait or Twickenham Ait. In the 1960s, the Eel Pie Island Hotel on the Ait was a popular jazz & blues music venue, with performers including the Rolling Stones, the Who, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, John Mayall and the Yardbirds. A yacht anchored at Hugh Town harbour on St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly. These islands are an archipelago in the Atlantic off the tip of Cornwall, This is the largest of the group and is seen as the gateway to them. However, covering an area of about 6 square miles, it is still small! Hugh Town is the biggest settlement on the island and is its administrative centre.
