SpaceX's Crew Dragon in orbit, illustration. SpaceX's Crew Dragon is a next-generation spacecraft designed to carry astronauts to Earth orbit and beyond. The spacecraft will be capable of carrying up to seven crew. It will be able to land almost anywhere on Earth, and will be able to be rapidly refuelled and relaunched. It is intended to revolutionize access to space. SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies) is a private US aerospace and space transport services company. It was founded in 2002 and has developed the Falcon rockets and the Dragon spacecraft. Future plans include crewed flights to Mars.

In the future, we are going to discover new worlds outside of our comfort zone, "planet EARTH" and I just hope we live long enough to witness it.

Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger (mission 51-L) seventy-three seconds after lift- off from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 28th January 1986. All seven crew members were killed. It is thought that O-rings in a seal on the right hand solid rocket booster failed, due to the extremely cold weather conditions experienced just prior to the launch. The subsequent leak of fuel resulted in the explosion.

Apollo 13 Nasa's third attempt to land a man on the moon had to be aborted when the oxygen tanks in the service module exploded leaving the craft stranded in space. The incident was reported to Mission Control with the understated phrase: "Houston, We Have A Problem". The astronauts relocated into the Lunar Module, looped around the moon and then used the thrusters from the lunar module (intended only to descend to the moons surface), to bring them back home. SpaceX Demonstration Mission 1 on the launchpad at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. The Dragon 2 capsule (left) is mounted aboard a Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket, with the gangway arm extended from the launch tower to the capsule. This mission will be the first orbital test of the Dragon 2 spacecraft, scheduled for launch on March 2, 2019. Dragon 2 is a class of reusable spacecraft in development by American aerospace manufacturer SpaceX. The mission will test the approach and automated docking procedures with the International Space Station (ISS). The capsule will remain docked for a few weeks, then conduct re-entry, splashdown and recovery steps to test the craft for flights transporting humans to the ISS.

Vostok 1 (in russian “Восто́к”, which means East or Orient 1) was the first manned spaceflight in history, launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 12, 1961.
