The shipyards were used by the Galactic Republic during the Great Sith War—a conflict waged by the forces of the Sith sect against the Republic—and came under a Sith attack during their first offensive wave. During the final stages of the war, the Human Sith Lord Ulic Qel-Droma attempted to force a Republic military officer to transmit orders to the Republic fleet instructing all the fleet's starships to arrive at the coordinates of the Vento system shipyards—an action that would cause the destruction of many Republic vessels.

Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems was a starship manufacturer that provided ships and equipment for the First Order. The company spawned from the infamous Sienar Fleet Systems, which produced ships for clients such as the governments of the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire. Their products included the TIE/fo and TIE/sf space superiority fighters, the latest models in the TIE line produced by the company's predecessor Sienar Fleet Systems, and the Upsilon-class command shuttle.
