Litchfield Correctional Institution is a minimum security prison located in Litchfield, NY.

In 1947 Portland, Maine, banker Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. He is befriended by Ellis "Red" Redding, an inmate and prison contraband smuggler serving a life sentence. Red procures a rock hammer and a large poster of Rita Hayworth for Andy. Assigned to work in the prison laundry, Andy is frequently sexually assaulted by "the Sisters" and their leader, Bogs.

This could have been the prison design they handed out at Shawshank Prison in 1947. The Cube was originally a S.H.I.E.L.D. black facility, one of nine classified bases. The Cube was a prison for alien criminals who committed crimes on Earth. It was here that the "Marvel Boy" was imprisoned after his brief assault on the US government. He boasted that he would make it the capital of a new Kree empire, a threat he later made good on after the superhuman Civil War. During the Superhero Civil War, the sadistic warden approached S.H.I.E.L.D. to use Marvel Boy, brainwashed by his experiments, as an efficient asset against the children of the Pride. Due to interference of the Young Avengers, Marvel Boy did indeed take control of the facility.

Alcatraz penitentiary is a very foreboding place. The prison has a long and storied past. This sign is one of the first things you see as you land on the island. You can also still see the graffiti that was painted on the wall from the 19 month Indian occupation of the island from November 1969 until June 1971.
