Carter Carburetor Company in St. Louis, Missouri, was established in 1909 by William Carter, who started experimenting with carburetors while running a successful bicycle shop. His first cast brass carb could meter and deliver fuel more accurately than many competing units, and easily found a place in the market. Carter became a major OEM supplier to Detroit. In 1971, they introduced the ThermoQuad four barrel. It was available in two sizes, rated according to air flow – 850 and 1000 CFM. The higher flow model was the largest street carburetor in terms of air flow when released, and was a factory part on many of the muscle cars of the era. Gear heads have a love/hate relationship with ThermoQuads, in that they either love or hate them.

From its first issue in 1955 until it's last in 1971, Drag News was known as the bible for drag racers and their fans wanting to keep up on wins, losses, and records across the country as well as seeing ads for the latest go fast goodies from the preeminent builders of the day. Covering the earliest days of the sport all the way through the golden age of drag racing, Drag News was there and while many others tried to get a piece of the action, Drag News maintained it's spot as top dog throughout it's entire run.

Given the rather enormous infrastructure costs involved, it's pretty rare that a truly new tire company comes along, but back in the early '90s, Blitzeinschlag Motorradreifen (Lightning Strike Motorcycle Tires) did just that. From their small factory in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, this startup firm focused on making premium motorcycle tires aimed at racers and enthusiasts. The upmarket rubber that Blitzeinschlag turned out quickly gained a dedicated following, but sadly, after just seven years, they closed up shop as material costs became prohibitively expensive.

Subaru introduced the "New Age" Impreza to Japan in August 2000. Naturally aspirated flat-four (boxer) engines comprised the 1.5-liter EJ15, the 1.6-liter EJ16, the 2.0-liter EJ20, and the 2.5-liter EJ25. Turbocharged versions of the 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines were offered in the WRX and WRX STI models. STI models featured a more powerful 2.0-liter (2.5-liter outside of the Japanese market) turbocharged engine. WRX models featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine until 2005, after which they switched to the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine.
