Spence Air Base was a United States Air Force base that operated from 1941 to 1961 amed Spence Army Airfield after World War I hero Lt. Thomas Lewis Spence of Thomasville, Georgia who died in a 1918 aircraft crash in France. When the attack on Pearl Harbor came on 7 December 1941 a small military detachment of 27 officers and 39 enlisted men staffed the airfield. It was used by the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command, Southeast Training Center (later Eastern Flying Training Command) for advanced single-engine flying training. The Army Air Forces Pilot School (Advanced Single-Engine) activated on 15 November 1941. The North American AT-6 Texan was the primary aircraft operated by the school.

The 59th Ordnance Brigade is a military unit of the United States Army. The unit is currently stood up as the U.S. Army Ordnance School's training brigade. In its previous iteration, the brigade had more than 6,500 soldiers. It was responsible for storage, delivering, maintaining, Nuclear and Chemical Control Orders, and supervising the weapons of mass destruction ("special ammo" of Nuclear and Chemical Munitions) for U.S. Forces and Forces of the Allied NATO-Countries, except France.

The 66th Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment in the United States Army. Constituted 10 July 1943 in the Regular Army as the 66th Infantry and assigned to the 71st Infantry Division. Activated 15 July 1943 at Camp Carson, Colorado. Inactivated 5–9 April 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. The 24th Engineer Group (Construction) was reassigned from Korea to USAREUR on 20 December 1954 (less personnel and equipment). The Group was further assigned to the 7th Engineer Brigade on 1 October 1955. On 1 July 1974, with the inactivation of the US Army Engineer Command, Europe, the 24th Engr Gp was reassigned to HQ USAREUR. The Group was located at Kleber Kaserne, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

528th Support Battalion "The 528th Support Battalion's mission is to provide rapidly deployable CSS and HSS to ARSOF as directed. The 528th Support Battalion's strengths lie in its capability to support ARSOF-unique and low-density weapons and vehicles. The 528th complements [organic] 22 ARSOF CSS, HSS, and signal units. The support battalion consists of a headquarters and main support company (HMSC), three forward support companies and may receive augmentation from Theater Army.

The Battalion was organized from elements of Signal Operations Battalion, Heidelberg, and D Company 68th Signal Battalion.

3rd Battalion, 63rd Armor The 3rd Bn, 63rd Armor's stationing in Augsburg since the 1960s and its move to Harvey Barracks, Kitzingen in early 1983. 3rd Bn, 63rd Armor The "Strike" Battalion was assigned to the 3rd Inf Div in 1977, with station in Augsburg. In 1983, the battalion moved to Harvey Barracks, Kitzingen. The battalion is equipped with the M1A1 MTB. The unit is scheduled to join the Army Regimental System in 1989 and will be redesignated as 4th Bn, 69th Armor.

The M60 Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) is an armored vehicle based on the M60 Patton main battle tank's hull and used for the launching and retrieval of a 60-foot (18 m) scissors-type bridge. The AVLB consists of three major sections: the launcher, the vehicle hull, and the bridge. The M60 AVLB or Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge was introduced in 1963. It was designed to launch bridge for tanks and other wheeled combat vehicles across trenches and water obstacles in combat conditions. A total of 400 armored bridge launchers and bridges were built. 125 M60 AVLBs of all variants were constructed. The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the United States and the Soviet Union from 12 March 1947 to 1991.

The 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade is a Brigade level organization apart of the Arizona Army National Guard and is headquarters at Papago Park Military Reservation. A maneuver enhancement brigade (MEB) is a self-contained, modular, and multifunctional support brigade of the United States Army customized to meet whatever mission it receives. A MEB's primary purpose is to plug into operational formations commanded by corps or division commanders, to support brigade combat teams once deployed, and to conduct tactical level tasks.

The United States Army's 3rd Cavalry Division was created from the perceived need for additional cavalry units in the interwar period.The 3rd Cavalry Division was largely a "paper" formation existing from 1927 to 1940. Its units never assembled in a single location or conducted large scale training. It was constituted in the Regular Army but most of the support elements were part of the Army Reserve. The 3rd Cavalry Division was located in the United States and never deployed overseas. The division's shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 17 February 1928. Established as a defensive interceptor squadron for Hawaii in late 1941. Suffered tremendous casualties and aircraft losses at Wheeler Field during the Pearl Harbor Attack. Re-equipped and used as Seventh Air Force training unit; also flew reconnaissance patrols over Hawaii until late 1943. Deployed to Central Pacific as part of Seventh Air Force island hopping campaign against Japanese in late 1943. Flew combat missions from Makin Island using P-39 Airacobra fighters until April 1944, returning to Hawaii and being re-equipped and trained with long-range P-51 Mustangs.

1st Ranger Company 2nd Infantry Division Oct, 28 1950 Aug, 1 1951 the Ranger Infantry Companies added airborne assault to their repertoire. All Rangers within the companies were airborne qualified. During the course of the war, the Rangers patrolled and probed, scouted and destroyed, attacked and ambushed the Communist Chinese and Korean enemy. The 1st Rangers destroyed the 12th North Korean Division headquarters in a daring night raid. The 2nd and 4th Rangers made a combat airborne assault near Munsan where Life Magazine reported that Allied troops were now patrolling north of the 38th Parallel. Crucially, the 2nd Rangers plugged the gap made by the retreating Allied forces, the 5th Rangers helped stop the Chinese 5th Phase Offensive.

The terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 altered the character of the planned six-month deployment of the 1st Battalion, 180th to Egypt in 2003 as a part of the Multinational Force and Observers. The 1st Battalion, 180th was the 44th battalion to complete an MFO rotation. While deployed to Egypt, the 1st Battalion, 180th was asked to provide volunteers to go with the 45th Infantry Brigade to Afghanistan on a second deployment,
