A digital drawing depicting the steam locomotive Flying Scotsman as it would have been seen Circa 1930. This is the classic image of Flying Scotsman with the letters LNER on the tender and 4472 on the cab. From 1928 to 1936 Flying Scotsman had a corridor tender giving the crew access to the locomotive from the train. This enabled it to travel the 392 miles from London to Edinburgh in eight hours changing the crew without stopping. By 1936 the non-stop service was being carried out by the streamlined A4s and Flying Scotsman reverted to a non-corridor tender.

Everyone loves to ride the rails especially on a steam train. Steam Trains were the trail blazers of rail transportation dating from the early 1800's to the mid 1900's.

The BR Standard Class 7, otherwise known as the Britannia Class, is a class of 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive designed for mixed traffic duties.

Flying Scotsman LNER number 4472 became the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at a speed of 100 MPH on the 30th November 1934 on a special test run. Unofficially the GWR locomotive 3440 City of Truro was timed at running in excess of 100 mph during a run from Plymouth to London in 1904.

Vintage Baldwin Locomotive Works No. 26 0-6-0 steam engine at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton Pennsylvania.

A black and white image of 5428 LMS Class 5 or "Black Five" as the class is lovingly called. 5428 is a steam locomotive built in 1937 for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). In 1967 it was withdrawn from British Rail service, preserved and named Eric Treacy after the former Bishop of Wakefield, an eminent railway photographer. The Black Fives were a mixed traffic locomotive, a "do-anything go-anywhere" type, designed by William Stanier and several members of the class survived to the last day of steam on British Railways in 1968, with eighteen of the type making it into preservation. 5428 is photographed here on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway near Goathland.
