The Skye Terrier is an old Scottish breed. Starting in the 1600s, Skye's were bred to protect fields from badgers and foxes. They're known for their long hairy bodies (twice as long as they are tall!) and their big feathery ears although there is a drop-eared version that used to be preferred by breeders. A famous Skye Terrier, Grayfriar's Bobby, was so devoted to his master that Bobby laid on his grave for 14 years after the man died. Surely the Skye is a distinctive, loyal, and courageous breed.
