La Paz is the capital city of the La Paz Department of Honduras. The town was founded in 1792 and has an estimated population of 46,000 people. It is 750 m (2460 feet) above sea level on the Comayagua River in an area that has mountainous terrain with thick jungle cover. The town dates back to 1750 when two Spanish colonies existed in the area.
