Celtic Hammer Stickers

Some of you will recognize the hammer in this piece, from my previous work, 'Hammer of the Dog', as the plan was always to use it in two different pieces. Again, everything in this work was done by digitally hand-drawing, photoshop, or some combination of both. The Celtic knotwork was insanely labor intensive and there was a few times I thought about abandoning it, especially on the axe.

This original design is inspired by Norse mythology and features ancient Viking ornamentation. The Norse storm god, Thor, from Norse mytholog, is the son of Odin and Jord, and married to Sif. He's loyal, honorable, and strong. His weapon is his hammer, Mjöllnir (Lightning). While his weapon symbolizes lightning, Thor himself is the embodiment of thunder. Not only a warrior, Thor is a god of fertility and agriculture.

Vikings and Norse warriors would wear the Mjölnir (Thor's Hammer) amulet to invoke the thunder god's strength and protection. In Norse mythology, Odin, the Allfather, is the father of Thor. This depiction of Mjölnir is adorned with Odin and Thor locked in battle. What's causing this domestic dispute? I'm not sure. Maybe Thor drank Odin's last bottle of mead!
