Sunset at Lake Mungo. As the sun drops in the west the light is reflected onto the lunette, made up of sand dunes and eroded pinnacles known as The Walls of China which is on the eastern shore of the ancient lake. These are the rocks protecting the cliffs and walkway to the beach at Happisburgh, Norfolk. In the back ground you can see the old sea defences that no longer protect this coastline. This image has been given a painterly effect. Canon 600D

Looking down from the rim of the canyon the Tsauchab River flows though the Sesriem Canyon, but it is usually as dry as in this image. At the entry to Sossusvlei is the Sesriem Canyon. As a result of erosion over many centuries, a narrow gorge of about one kilometre in length was formed about 30 to 40 metres deep. Sossusvlei, Namib Desert, Namibia, Africa.

Weathering rings often appears as brown-color pattern on the surface of rocks, especially on the parts with cracks. The weathering ring shown on rocks can be regarded as pieces of extremely fine craftsmanship rendering flawless beauty with high ornamental value. Weathering often occurs along the joins of rocks as they are exposed to the planet’s atmosphere. If the water or the rocks contain iron, it may become ferric oxide after a long time interaction; whereas the color of the weathering ring may darken and turn into tan or brown color.

This is a portion of the view from atop the Angel's Window in Grand Canyon National Park, looking across to the South Rim. I must admit that I was so taken with the multitude of colours in the rock on the far side of the canyon that I had to see if I could capture it. It was a wonderfully clear day, so much so that the richness of the rocky tones seemed beyond compare, Deep in the canyon flows the Colorado River, and true to its name, it flows as a meandering reddy-orange ribbon. It is extraordinary to think that all that has eroded from that landscape has flowed down that river.

Gullies on a Martian sand dune. Coloured satellite image of gullies on a sand dune within Russell Crater, Mars. The source of the gullies is not known. They may have been carved in the past by liquid water, or may be a result of recent landslides. Image obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) on 16th May 2009. The width of this image is roughly 1.2 kilometres across.

Badlands National Park is located in southwest South Dakota. The park has many eroded buttes, pinnacles and grasslands.

Antelope Canyon. View of the eroded sandstone walls of Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon in Arizona, USA. These smooth, angular surfaces of rock have been eroded by seasonal flash floods after thunderstorms. The water follows cracks in the sandstone of the area. The abrasive quality of the water comes from particles of sand it carries. Localised turbulence and eddy patterns in the flow of water cut natural arches, curves and holes into the rock.

Pinnacles at Lake Mungo. During the day the Pinnacles are a lighter hue, the hotter and brighter the day, the paler the colour. Laomei Green Reef is located on the North Coast near the Laomei Community in Shimen District. Over a long process by daily ocean erosive forces channels have been cut into a volcanic rock. Every April and May after the northeast monsoons die down, algae covers the neat rows of stone troughs here with a vibrant green, creating a rare and spectacular sight.
