Built in 1904 when Southport was still the county seat for Brunswick County, the old jail is a two-story brick structure that offers visitors a chance to look back in time at the law enforcement history of the 20th century. The Old Brunswick County Jail was built at a now remarkable cost of $6,738 and served its original purpose for nearly 70 years. Each cell in the old facility had four bunks along with a steel wash basin and commode. The cells themselves were made using cast iron bars. Similar bars also covered the windows. Spring Houses were a vital part of the landscape in the 18th and 19th century. They were built over springs in order to keep food cool and to keep the drinking water pure. This particular Spring House is located on the grounds of Highland Mansion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

My longest exposure yet; I can see a few white ghosts on the pond from geese and ducks but other than that it came out pretty well. There were people all over the place in this scene but none of them stood still long enough to get recorded. I was pretty lucky with the stillness of the air as well, it was kind of breezy up to that point in the day. I don't know what made me do it, I could have opened up the aperture some and had a shorter exposure, but I just went ahead and went for it. I actually set an alarm on my phone to tell me to close the shutter. Miniature Forests on the Edge of Grand Prismatic Spring by Debra Martz Within the rainbow of orange, brown and red colors, some microorganisms live in communities of thick mats. Like a miniature forest, there are microbes that live on or near the top, similar to a forest canopy, using sunlight to perform photosynthesis to fuel the community. Organisms living deeper in the mat, similar to a forest understory, derive energy from the chemicals produced by the surface microbes. Just like a forest's counterparts, all of these organisms create an ecosystem in the expanse of a few inches depth. Surprise Pool Yellowstone National Park Wyoming by Debra Martz In Yellowstone National Park there are many thermal pools to see! Some are small while some are much larger. Surprise Pool is a small hot spring pool in the Lower Geyser Basin and easily accessible when driving the Firehole Lake Drive. The Palace of Fine Art was the centerpiece for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. It was rebuild in 1965 Today it is a popular tourist attraction and host many art exhibitions.

Once upon a time...

The Golden Gate Bridge spans the Golden Gate Strait between San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean. This suspension bridge is 1.7 miles long and 90 feet wide. The two towers reach 746 feet above the water.

St Mary's Lighthouse and island lie north of the River Tyne and Whitley Bay on the North East coast of England. This black and white image was captured on a stormy April morning with rain clouds on the horizon. The lighthouse is no longer in operation and is now a museum and tourist attraction which is only accessible when the tide is low and the causeway is then no longer under water.

This is just one sample of the intricate stone work at Old City Hall in downtown Toronto. It was designed by a Toronto architect named E. J. Lennex back in 1889, with the intent of this building becoming both a City Hall and a Court House. The total cost was expected to be $300,000 (back then). Being inspired by Chicago architect H. H. Richardson, Lennox planned a Romanesque design incorporating various Chicago ideas. His design of City Hall became truly creative and original. Its massive red sandstone blocks were from a quarry at the Forks of the Credit River Valley. When the building was officially opened in September 1899, it contained 5.5 acres of floor space and cost $2,500,000! Hope you like this one too. All images ...
