The officers with Washington held back their grins as best they could. One said, "General Washington, you have been out maneuvered by all this. I would bet that even the mouse agrees."

A sign hung out front, California Gold Rush Headquaters. I could see that it would not be open for another hour. About a block from the school I noticed several gentlemen dressed in silk suits and patent leather shoes smoking cigarettes on the corner. Mark told me that they were the California Gold Rush workers and that they always dressed like that. I asked him what happened to the church and he shrugged his shoulders. He wasn't much of a talker.

July 14, 1774 Dear Diary, Lucinda gave me a jeweled necklace that gave us the power to travel back in time and sent all of us to London to correct the space-time continuum as best we could. She said that she could watch over us with her crystal and we could talk to each other as long as I wore the necklace. Alfred could time travel, but only as a mouse. He said he found it humiliating to be reduced to such small stature. He grumbled about it from time to time. Cedric and Zeke were delighted that they could be at my side while we tweaked with history.

It was difficult to tell as it could best be described as musical mayhem; although they did it in perfect two-part harmony. We listened to several tunes and each one was funnier than the last. I said, "Turn around three times and close your eyes And soon you will be close to the skies. Make that which was small, Grow and be so very tall. Alakazim, Alakazam!" She did the turnaround and Polly became as large as ever. We hopped on Polly and flew high overhead and followed the road. We could see a quintet of bandits robbing the stage and running off with the strong box. We circled a few times as I wanted see where they were going.
