This photograph was taken within Lumphini park (sometimes spelled Lumpini Park) in Bangkok, Thailand, near Silom and the Sala Daeng Station. The park was constructed in 1942. In the photograph you can see the Chinese Guardian Lion protecting the pagoda, in the background is a black dog and beyond that is a man made lake, which is featured prominently in the park and has many tourists which ride on swan peddle boats. This design was inspired by a design brief called Pure Zen. I love old fashioned wallpaper depicting ancient Chinese villages. This design is my modern interpretation of these vintage designs.

The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh was constructed over a century ago to serve as the residence of the King of Cambodia, his family and foreign dignitaries, as a venue for the performance of court ceremony and ritual and as a symbol of the Kingdom. It serves to this day as the Cambodian home of King Norodom Sihamoni and while his father King Norodom Sihanouk. The Palace complex and attached 'Silver Pagoda' compound consist of several buildings, structures and gardens all located within 500x800 meter walled grounds overlooking a riverfront park. Marking the approach to the Palace, the high sculpted wall and golden spired Chanchhaya Pavilion stand distinctively against the riverfront skyline.

Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (also known as Golden Rock) is a well-known Buddhist pilgrimage site in Mon State, Myanmar. It is a small pagoda (7.3 metres) built on the top of a granite boulder covered with gold leaves pasted on by devotees. According to legend, the Golden Rock itself is precariously perched on a strand of the Buddha's hair. The rock and the pagoda are at the top of Mt. Kyaiktiyo. It is the third most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in Burma after the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Mahamuni Pagoda. A glimpse of the "gravity defying" Golden Rock is believed to be enough of an inspiration for any person to turn to Buddhism. Didn't turn me though. In order to get to Golden Rock you need to arrive at a small town called Kinpun at...

There is not much of interest in Kinpun itself nor for some distance around the town. However, I did come across what looked like woodcutters some distance outside Kinpun. They seem to have set up a small village in a large expanse of countryside and were just about finished cutting down all the trees in sight and turning them into firewood and charcoal. Think the land was then going to be turned into a plantation of some kind. Firewood is used a lot in Burma. See Mandalay photos.

Taken at Sule Pagoda. Not sure date, but it seems that to celebrate the Buddha's birthday, Buddhists perform a ceremony in which scented water is poured over a statue of the Buddha. They are actually helping to wash away the impurities and worries in their own hearts. Since all living creatures may someday become buddhas, helping others attain fulfillment also helps oneself attain fulfillment. Therefore, this kind of work is also called "washing the Buddha."

From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains. Over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.
