Steam Train Engine Stickers

Ex GWR Large Prairie engine 5199 spent most of its working life in the Birmingham area based at Tyseley from 1934 to 49. It is photographed here in the Forest of Dean, visiting from the Llangollen Railway. The image depicts the engine as she would have worked, pulling a local passenger service on a branch line.

All these gauges and dials inside the cab of the steam locomotive are the controls necessary to operate the train.

The word locomotive originates from the Latin loco – "from a place", and the Medieval Latin motivus, "causing motion". Besides that, they're cool. See Locomotive-2 for another version.

Flying Scotsman on the Cathedrals Express rail tour along the Severn Estuary on 19th May 2017. Flying Scotsman is the most famous locomotive in the world and this tour had crowds on every bridge waiting for a glimpse of this Icon. Photograph taken near Westbury-on-Severn, Gloucestershire as the sun was setting.

A digital drawing depicting the steam locomotive Flying Scotsman as it went through changes in its appearance between 1925-1962. Starting life in 1923 as a Class A1 number 1472 in with a low sided tender, right-hand drive, rounded steam collector and single chimney. Finishing its service in January 1963 as a left-hand drive Class A3 with the elongated "banjo" dome, double chimney, smoke deflectors, streamlined tender and number 60103.

This is the classic image of Flying Scotsman with the letters LNER on the tender and 4472 on the cab. From 1928 to 1936 Flying Scotsman had a corridor tender giving the crew access to the locomotive from the train. This enabled it to travel the 392 miles from London to Edinburgh in eight hours changing the crew without stopping. By 1936 the non-stop service was being carried out by the streamlined A4s and Flying Scotsman reverted to a non-corridor tender.

The Great Western Railway King George V steam Train MotorManiac

A black and white image of 5428 LMS Class 5 or "Black Five" as the class is lovingly called. 5428 is a steam locomotive built in 1937 for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). In 1967 it was withdrawn from British Rail service, preserved and named Eric Treacy after the former Bishop of Wakefield, an eminent railway photographer. The Black Fives were a mixed traffic locomotive, a "do-anything go-anywhere" type, designed by William Stanier and several members of the class survived to the last day of steam on British Railways in 1968, with eighteen of the type making it into preservation. 5428 is photographed here on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway near Goathland.

A digital drawing depicting the steam locomotive Flying Scotsman with number 60103 as it would have been seen between 1961 and 1963. In 1954 it was converted to left hand drive with the vacuum exhaust ejector pipe and the reversing rod moved to the left-hand side from the right and painted in BR green. In 1959 the chimney was replaced with a double chimney and in 1961 the smoke deflectors were added. Flying Scotsman ended service with its last scheduled run on 14 January 1963.

It was renumbered 4472 and given the name "Flying Scotsman" just before it represented LNER as its flagship locomotive at the British Empire Exhibition, at Wembley Park in 1924. It represented LNER again at the 1925 exhibition and this artwork depicts Flying Scotsman as it would have appeared, with its number on the low sided tender and the LNER crest on the cab.

Flying Scotsman LNER number 4472 became the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at a speed of 100 MPH on the 30th November 1934 on a special test run. Unofficially the GWR locomotive 3440 City of Truro was timed at running in excess of 100 mph during a run from Plymouth to London in 1904.

Everyone loves to ride the rails especially on a steam train.

Steam Train - Ticket To Ride

Built in the early 1900's the P3 0-6-0 steam engines were powerful trains that were used mainly for goods transport as well as working transporting coal from North Eastern coal fields. This example was retired in 1967 when it was working as a goods train around the coalfields in Sunderland.
