A beautiful portrait of an angel's face carved out of stone. The delicate features of this statue make it almost come to life.

Aphrodite of Milos, better known as the Venus de Milo, is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. Created sometime between 130 and 100 BC, the statue is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (Venus to the Romans). It is a marble sculpture, slightly larger than life size at 6 ft 8 in high. Part of an arm and the original plinth (the slab on which the statue rested) were lost following its discovery. From an inscription that was on its plinth, the statue is thought to be the work of Alexandros of Antioch. It is currently on permanent display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Saint Michael, the Archangel, On the corner niches of many buildings in Valletta are to be found sculptures, mainly Christian in nature, and often near or on church buildings. The tradition of setting up niches in streets dates back to the Roman era. In Christian times, images of Christ, Our Lady and Christian Saints, replaced those of Roman Gods. These niches were often decorated and lit, thus paying homage to the image within, as well as providing some illumination during the night. Canon 6D, zoom lens.

The ‘De Vilhena’ Lion statue in East Street corner with Archbishop Street, Valletta. The lion is the heraldic emblem of the Grand Master who reigned in Malta between 1722 and 1736. De Vilhena enhanced the island’s military defences by building Fort Manoel to protect the exposed flank of the city in Marsamxett Harbour.
