© Richard Bean 2009 Mechanics Hall is a historic commercial building and meeting hall at 519 Congress Street in downtown Portland, Maine. Built in 1857-59 by and for the members of the Maine Charitable Mechanical Association, it is a well-preserved example of commercial Italianate architecture executed in brick and stone, and a landmark in Portland's downtown business district. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.[1] The building is still owned by the association, which has a library and sponsors events. In The Canyon is an art print I created using a fauvism technique of high-rises (fauvism: style of painting born in Paris around 1905). This technique focuses on bold brush strokes creating abstract oriented shapes and bright non-naturalistic colors creating a bold modern or contemporary look. The perspective of this view is looking looking up from street level between five high-rises. The following series are images taken while walking the streets of Lisbon, Portugal. Narrow streets and alleyways, cars parked on either side of the streets, little shops and stores, bars and restaurants, small churches, all can be found on any of these streets that are full of life and action any time of the day. This is an image of a small street that is littered with Tuk Tuks, small 3-wheeled motorized vehicles used mainly by tourists in the city. The drivers can be quite aggressive when it comes to soliciting tourists. One morning I decided to try one just for the experience.
