the Las Vegas Gold Key, was located at 3053 Las Vegas Blvd. Opened in 1960. Closed in 1990. Demolished during the Desert Inn Road Super Arterial project It was located across from the Stardust, by the Desert Inn and the Flame Restaurant, on the site of what is now the Gold Key Shops. It had 100 rooms, was 3 stories tall with a glass elevator, heated pool, color TV in every room, coffee shop, drug store, steak house and cocktail lounge.

On May 6, 1950 Benny Binion opened the Westerner. It was just west of the Pioneer Club on the site of the former Las Vegas Club which had moved down Fremont Street. In 1962 the Westerner became Club Bingo.

Sy’s “Casino of Fun” was a "grind joint" located in the Las Vegas Plaza Shopping Center (then called Fashion Square) located directly across from Stardust. The skyline of the Las Vegas Strip has been dominated by megaresorts for the past couple of decades. But in the '60s and '70s, you'd find lots of what were called "grind joints" -- places like Foxy's Firehouse and Little Caesars that used gimmicks to lure customers in. Mr. Sy's was open from 1962-1980, slots only at 3049 Las Vegas Blvd. Mr. Sy's distributed "funbooks" at locations frequented by tourists. A funbook would be filled with coupons which acted as incentives to get people in the door. You might find a coupon for a free bowl of Irish Stew, free match play on a bet, a postcard..

The Jockey Club is a condominium and timeshare resort at 3700 Las Vegas Boulevard South that opened in 1974. Forney Smith and his business associates had this nifty idea in 1972 that what the Strip needed were apartment buildings to house all those thousands of casino employees. He discovered pretty fast that with a few precious exceptions the idea fails because, to hear Smith tell it, “Little did I know, you don’t live where you work.” It was planned to have a casino, and chips were made for its use, but the casino was never opened.

The Castaways was a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It began in the 1930s, as a small motel called Mountain View. It became the San Souci in 1939, and underwent several ownership changes in its early years. Reopened as the Polynesian-themed Castaways on September 1, 1963. The Castaways closed on July 20, 1987 to make way for the future Mirage--also soon to go away.

Opened in 1950, the casino was built on the grounds of the Last Frontier Village of the Hotel Last Frontier, and was originally named the Golden Slipper Saloon and Gambling Hall. The owner originally wanted to call it the Silver Slipper, but there already was an existing establishment with that name. The problem was solved when that small operation was purchased and closed, and the Golden Slipper became the Silver Slipper. The casino was known for its rotating slipper that sat atop the casino.On April 30, 1968, the Silver Slipper was purchased by businessman Howard Hughes in his famous spending spree of buying Vegas properties, which included the Frontier next door.

The Aladdin was a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Toy manufacturer Edwin S. Lowe originally opened the 450-room Tallyho Hotel on the property in 1962. Milton Prell purchased the hotel and began an extensive $3 million renovation of the property before reopening it as the Aladdin on April 1, 1966. A 19-story hotel tower was added in 1976. After various ownership changes, the Aladdin was closed in 1997 and demolished the following year to make room for a new Aladdin resort that opened in 2000.

The 520-room hotel opened on February 1, 1972, as the Holiday Inn Center Strip, named for its location at the center of the Las Vegas Strip. It consisted of a 14-story tower. n 1980, construction began on a 23-story tower addition with 494 rooms. It was finished in 1982, and the hotel became the world's largest Holiday Inn. The casino originally featured a riverboat façade, which was enlarged in 1990, as part of a $100 million renovation and expansion project. The riverboat theme was removed in a subsequent renovations.

Flamingo Capri, the motel before Imperial Palace, built an Asian-themed tower known as the "Imperial Palace Tower". The tower was incredibly different from the motel's intended tropical theme. At the time of opening, the resort included Court of a Thousand Treasures, a four-story shopping arcade with 60 stores, overlooking the east end of the 30,000 sq ft (2,800 m2) casino. The Auto Collections opened in 1981, on the fifth floor of a new parking garage. Now defunct the Imperial Palace was an Asian-themed hotel and casino located left of the Flamingo on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The property began as the Kona Kai Motel in 1962, and was purchased by Ralph Engelstad in 1969. The motel was sold to John Woodrum, who renamed it as the Klondike Inn in 1976
