Emperor angelfish (Pomacanthus imperator) swimming over soft corals (order Alcyonacea) on a reef. This angelfish is found throughout the Indo-Pacific and can reach up to 40 centimetres in length. It feeds on sponges and other encrusting organisms. Photographed in the Red Sea, Egypt.

Egg-yolk jellyfish (Phacellophora camtschatica). This species is found in cool waters across the world. It feeds on gelatinous zooplankton and smaller jellyfish, which become ensnared in its tentacles.

Mauve stinger jellyfish (Pelagia noctiluca). This jellyfish is found in the open ocean. The bowl-shaped bell and tentacles have clumps of stinging cells (nematocysts), used to subdue prey such as fish, crustaceans or plankton. The mauve stinger is bioluminescent, producing flashes of light when stimulated by turbulence.

Grey whale (Eschrichtius robustus). This whale is found in coastal waters, migrating with the seasons from Arctic waters to tropical equatorial waters. It can grow up to 15 metres in length and weigh 16 tonnes. It has over 150 large bristly baleen plates (white) hanging down from its jaws. It feeds by swallowing sediment from the sea floor and then pressing its tongue against the plates, pushing the water out and trapping crustaceans and worms. Black anemone fish (Amphiprion melanopus) hidden in the tentacles of a partially bleached sea anemone. This fish, also known as the fire clownfish, is found on the coral reefs of the tropical Pacific Ocean. The anemone fish has a symbiotic relationship with the sea anemone. The sea anemone provides the anemone fish a safe haven by protecting it from predators through its stinging tentacles. The fish is immune to the sting and cleans the anemone by feeding on parasites such as algae and zooplankton. Photographed in Milne Bay, off Papua New Guinea.

Spinosaurus dinosaur, illustration. Spinosaurus were enormous meat-eating dinosaurs that lived during the late Cretaceous period (99 to 65 million years ago). Their typical length from tail tip to snout was 12-15 metres, and they are believed to have weighed at least 8 tonnes or more.

Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) fluking (lifting its tail) as it dives. Whales dive to feed, coming to the surface for air. The blue whale is the world's largest animal and can reach lengths of 27 metres and weigh 120 tonnes. It feeds on small crustaceans, such as krill. Dive times are usually 10 to 20 minutes. Brown bear (Ursus arctos) female in coastal waters in Alaska, USA. Brown bears in North America are also called grizzly bears. In Alaska, they can be 2-3 metres tall and can weigh over 700 kilograms. Brown bears are mainly vegetarian and feed on a wide variety of plants, but they will also eat meat when available, both by hunting and by scavenging for carrion.
