A very dark, damp and wet day on Brighton sea front

A fishing boat drawn uo on to the beach at Hastings in East Sussex. Fishing boats have been beached on this area of shingle known as The Stade, an Anglo-Saxon word for landing place, for over a thousand years and this is now the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Britain. This is a digital pastel drawing developed from my original photograph.

Weald & Downland Museum, West Sussex, July 2022 This is 'main street' at the Weald & Downland Museum (West Sussex, England). An idyllic setting for these wonderful, historic, exhibits. Date: 15th July 2022.

The Seven Sisters Number of views as of 6th March 2016 = 1000. The Seven Sisters are a string of chalk cliffs, formed where the South Downs of England meet the sea near Eastbourne in Sussex. Their names (from left to right, west to east) are Haven Brow, Short Brow, Rough Brow, Brass Point, Flat Hill, Bailey's Hill and Went Hill. 35mm slide scanned using Plustek 7200. Date: April 2006.

The curious jersey cows at my local farm came to see what I was doing with my camera. I particularly liked the small one peering around from behind the other one's legs.

It was 43 m (141 ft) in height and became operational in October 1902. For more than 80 years, the red-and-white striped tower was manned by three lighthouse keepers. Their job was to maintain the light, which rotates, making two white flashes every 20 seconds. It was then visible 26 nautical miles (48 km; 30 mi) out to sea. The lighthouse was fully automated in 1983 and the keepers withdrawn. Finepix HS30 EXR

I've always wanted to see what Rye looks like at dusk, and this year I got the opportunity for a walk around the town as night fell. One view that I caught just right was looking West along Church Street, which I've recreated here in oil on a 16x12 inch board. I normally paint wet into wet, but to get the high contrast between the colours of the buildings I've had to allow layers to dry at times. So this painting has taken over two weeks to complete.

The De La Warr Pavilion is a Grade One listed building, located on the seafront at Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex, on the south coast of England. The Art Deco and International Style building was constructed in 1935 and designed by the architects Erich Mendelsohn and Serge Chermayeff. Although sometimes claimed to be the first major Modernist public building in Britain, it was in fact preceded by some months by the Dutch-influenced Hornsey Town Hall. Alfriston Clergy House in Alfriston, Polegate, East Sussex, England, was the first property to be acquired by the National Trust. It was purchased in 1896 for £10.[ The house lies adjacent to the Church of St. Andrew. The house is a 14th-century Wealden hall house. Although the name reflects the fact that the parish priest and his housekeeper used it, the house was originally built as a farmer's house. It is a very modest property — not at all like the grand rectories that many Church of England clergy occupied by the 19th century. It is a low-ceilinged, two-storey, timber-framed building with a thatched roof. Part of the house was rebuilt in the 17th century. Netflix's horrible miniseries attempts to portray the Suffixes in the best light. It does a horrible job of it, especially when Meghan makes fun of having to curtsy to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. I'm sure she would do better if she was curtsying to what she REALLY respects...

This derelict building had been "decorated" with portraits by students hoping to make what was an eyesore for a long time a little more tenable. This building is located on the London Road opposite Preston Park

Brighton's West Pier. The pier was opened in 1866 and was the first pier to be Grade 1 listed in England and Wales but is now derelict. The pier closed to the public in 1975 and gradually fell in to disrepair and was ravaged by two separate fires in March & May 2003, both thought to be arson.
