This stylish café in the old center of Lugano is a landmark of the town; locals and tourists come here early in the morning to sip their cappuccino and eat a croissant or, later in the day, enjoy a marvellous piece of pastry. This picture was taken at 7 a.m. when the café was just about to open. (The cappucino tasted great!) Going strong since 1803, this cafe is the vision of old-world grandeur with its polished wood panelling and pineapple-shaped chandeliers. The tortes, pastries and fruit cakes are irresistible.
