Drax power station viewed from the north east. It is the biggest coal-fired power station in Western Europe, capabale of generating 3,900 MW and provides about 7% of the UK electricity supply. Because of its size, it is the UK's single largest emitter of carbon dioxide. In an attempt to reduce these emissions, the station is currently co-firing biomass (there were plans to build a biomass plant here as well, but this plan has recently been abandoned).
