This canal barge can be found in a man made loch on the Auchlochan Estate in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It can not go anywhere other than circle around the small loch, so in reality, it is an art object. Auchlochan is a purpose build Retirement Village and Elderly Care Home. It has lovely gardens and several man made small lochs. Auchlochan means (the) ‘Field of the small loch’. The current lochs at Auchlochan are man made and no one knows where the original loch was. The gatehouse and pend which link Dunfermline Palace and Abbey. Some of the palace remains are just over the fence on the right, while some of the remains of the Abbey are behind the Gatehouse. Dunfermline Palace is a former Scottish Royal Palace in Dunfermline, Fife. It is currently a ruin under the care of Historic Scotland and an important tourist attraction in Dunfermline. Dunfermline was a favourite residence of many Scottish monarchs. Documented history of royal residence there begins in the 11th century with Malcolm III who made it his capital. His seat was the nearby Malcolm's Tower, a few hundred yards to the west of the later palace. In the medieval period David II and James I of Scotland were both born at Dunfermline.

The Ross Doocot, in Learmonth Gardens, close to the Strawberry Bank area of Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland. Doocot is the Scots word for a building devoted to the domestication of pigeons. Built by the Barons Ross of Halkhead in the 16th century, to fattened pigeons as part of the winter diet, it is a circular beehive dovecot, containing 370 nesting boxes in its thick rubble walls, bound by three projecting rat-courses. Learmonth Gardens commemorate Alexander Learmonth, Provost of Linlithgow, 1802-1807. A Provost is the Scots equivalent of a Mayor. Shot taken 11th October 2008. This little dovecote or dovecot ( Scots: doocot ), in the style of a round tower, dating from around 1700, is located in Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Pittencrieff Park or "The Glen" as it is more commonly known by the local people extends to 76 acres of grass areas, landscaping, statues, ponds, rockeries, nature walks, dog exercise area, play areas, historic areas, and was given in trust by Andrew Carnegie (the Scottish-born American industrialist, businessman, and major philanthropist) to the people of his birthplace, Dunfermline. Before it was purchased in 1902, by Carnegie, Pittencrieff Park formed the estate and grounds of the house, owned by the Lairds of Pittencrieff.

The Black Watch Memorial in front of Lt. General Wade's Bridge over the River Tay in the town of Aberfeldy in the Breadalbane Region of Highland Perthshire (Breadalbane is from the Gaelic; Bràghaid Alban", meaning; the High Ground of Scotland). Shot taken on Saturday 20th December 08 in the middle of our winter. The Black Watch Memorial was unveiled in 1877 in honor of the Black Watch Regiment which was first established in Aberfeldy. The monument takes the form of a massive cairn surmounted by the statue of Private Farquhar Shaw dressed in the original uniform of the Regiment. The bridge was first opened to traffic at the end of October 1733. Wade regarded it the greatest of his considerable achievements in road-making.

A 'mob' of hang gliders flying above the Tinto Hills. The Tinto Hills are a small group of hills, called the 'hills of fire'. The name derives from the exposed red felsite rock that can be seen near the summit. The Tinto range can be found five miles south of the town of Lanark, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The largest of the hills is Tinto Hill itself. Hang gliding has been popular over Tinto Hill for a number of years, and the distance record for a hang-gliding flight from within Scotland was broken at Tinto Hill in 1996, with a flight that ended south of the border in England. Due to the hills being classified as SSSI (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) the hang-gliding club which uses Tinto has an agreement with the relevant body...

It was a glorious day today (2 April 09), so Sylvia and I went for a very pleasant walk in the country. We started off at the village of Ratho, Edinburgh, Scotland and walked along the Union Canal. Fun little doodle of my favorite bird

Pittencrieff Park or “The Glen” as it is more commonly known as by the locals in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland extends to 76 acres of grass areas, landscaping, statues, ponds, rockeries, nature walks, dog exercise area, play areas, historic areas, and was given in trust by Andrew Carnegie (the Dunfermline-born American industrialist, businessman, and major philanthropist) to the people of his birthplace. This scene shows a small part of the actual glen (in Scotland, a Glen is a Valley) that the whole park is locally named after. Before Carnegie purchased the park in 1902, Pittencrieff Park formed the estate and grounds of the house, owned by the Lairds of Pittencrieff.

I imagined a warm evening in the Everglades, with the last rays of the sun streaming through the trees and there had to be an Egret or a heron looking for it's supper. I added another one flying off to another feeding place just for good measure. I shot both of the egrets in Indian Shores in Florida and made the background from my own photos and textures, with the help of Topaz and Photoshop CC.
